A business card is all about letting people know how to contact you, but it can also be so much more. Your corporate business card can be used to make a great first impression so it also needs to be an effective marketing too. Here are some tips to ensure your business cards accurately reflect your brand and help you stand out from the competition.

8 tips for a great business card design

1. Remember, less is more

You might be tempted to include everything you possibly can on your business card, but if you really want to make an impression with your targets then you need to avoid clutter. Include options for how you want people to be able to reach you. It’s always a good idea to include your website address and you might even want to include social media addresses, such as Facebook and LinkedIn. If you’re unsure – just think about what will give people a good idea of your business.

2. Try to be unique in your business card design

Try to think of some elements that will make your business card different to other cards out there. Add a bit of personality to your business card or try to create something that inspires curiosity with your audience by giving them just that right amount of information that leaves them wanting to find out more about you. QR codes are an effective way to add an interactive element and using a dynamic QR code gives you the opportunity to update the destination URL without having to reprint your cards. Adding a special print finish such as a die-cut, foil or spot varnish conveys to your targets that you value attention to detail. Consider a speciality business card product like folded business cards,  appointment cards or mini business cards.

3. Reflect Your Branding

Your business card design should be consistent with all your marketing collateral. The font you use should be easy to read and also consistent with your branding. You should always include your logo on your business card and make sure it looks professional.

4. Say it in Colour

Adding a splash of colour to your business card can certainly get you noticed but remember not to overdo it. Too much colour will detract from your message and it’s important to stay consistent with your branding at all times.

6. Make It Clear What You Do

Make sure that people who receive your business card can see clearly what you do. This could be a short bullet point list of your products and services or a tag line that lets people know exactly why they should do business with you.

7. Use Both Sides

If your details start to look cluttered (or require a tiny font) then don’t be afraid to use the back of your card as well. Alternatively, use the back to create a point of difference by including relevant or useful information such as a customer testimonial, a location map of your business or as a special coupon or rewards card.

8. Have a Quality Finish

There is nothing quite like quality finishes to create a great first impression and really help your business stand out. Embossing can project a professional image whereas laminating one side of your card can make it feel substantial when held. Printing on quality stock can also be a worthwhile investment for your business too!

Finally, once you’re happy with your new business card design, make sure you proof read thoroughly before it goes to print (including checking and double checking your phone numbers and addresses).
