Getting the search engine optimisation (SEO) of your business website just right can seem like an extremely daunting task, especially when the search engine algorithms change on a regular basis. With things changing so quickly, it pays to have some help. We’ve put together this SEO health checklist to help you with the SEO of your website.

6 Essential SEO Health Checks for your Business Website

1. Do you have a strong Google Business profile?

https://www.google.com/business/ – This free tool is an initiative by Google to help you connect with your target audience. Create a profile for your company, complete all the relevant details about your business including your correct location, opening hours, business photos and customer reviews to make you more visible in maps, google+ and search.

2. Are you encouraging customer feedback?

Word of mouth has ALWAYS been the best way to get new customers for your business. The only thing that has changed is that now we rely on people in a far larger circle to tell us which businesses are great and which aren’t. Make sure you have a customer feedback link on your website, routinely ask customers for reviews via email or social media, and don’t be afraid of negative feedback. Letting potential clients see how well you resolve issues can be just as powerful as a page full of glowing testimonials.

3. Are you creating meaningful content?

Creating relevant content that meets the needs of your customer is the most powerful thing you can do for your website. Stay on brand, and stick to your expertise. Write articles that genuinely add value to your customers lives. Make sure you’re including both internal and external links in your content to boost your search engine rankings even further.

4. Check-in with Google Search Console

If you haven’t already, set up an account with the Google Search Console (https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/home?hl=en). This powerful (and free!) tool is designed to help you track your ongoing performance in Google search. You’ll be able to easily see which keywords are bringing you the most traffic and you can also use the console to identify and fix website errors.

5. Utilise Bing Webmaster tools

https://www.bing.com/webmasters/about – Just because Bing isn’t as popular as Google doesn’t mean it’s not still valuable for your business. With 12 billion searches a month done via the search engine it’s worth optimising for, and it has some handy features including a keyword research tool that will give you some good insight into both your customers and your business website.

6. Are you optimising your images?

Optimising images is one easy thing you can do to improve your SEO, and something which many people often overlook. Your images will say a lot about your business, but until you optimise them correctly Google (and other search engines) can’t ‘see’ them. In order to understand the image, search engines rely on your alt tags and filenames, so make sure you’re using your keywords there too!
